Ambitious Realty Spring Cleaning Checklist

May 19, 2021

Nothing feels more rewarding than getting down to business and properly cleaning your home.  As April is upon us, now is the perfect time to do that deep Spring cleaning your home (probably) needs.

We know doing a proper Spring cleaning can feel very overwhelming, so we’ve put together a room-by-room cleaning checklist to help you tackle those must-clean spots in your home.

Crack open those windows, turn up your favourite playlist and let’s get cleaning!

Every Room:

TIP: Dust everything first! Putting water and cleaning solution on dusty surfaces will just spread the dust around!

  • Dust and clean light fixtures
  • Dust and clean windows and windowsills thoroughly - vacuum window screens if needed
  • Dust and clean blinds
  • Dust curtain rods
  • Vacuum or launder curtains
  • Wipe down walls
  • Vacuum floors and baseboards
  • Wipe baseboards
  • Mop floors - remember to change the water frequently! We know it seems like more work, but there is no sense washing your floors with dirty water.
  • Spot clean or fully shampoo any carpets in need
  • File or recycle any paperwork
  • Test smoke detectors and replace batteries as needed
  • Clean air vents and registers
  • Replace light bulbs as needed
  • Sanitize door handles and light switches

Entryway:

  • Dust and clean doors
  • Organize shoes and jackets - putting any unneeded winter items into storage

Kitchen:

  • Clean stovetop
  • Clean oven
  • Clean microwave
  • Clean dishwasher
  • Clean refrigerator - clean and toss all those half full jars in the recycling bin!
  • Wipe down drawers and shelves in fridge and freezer
  • Clean out pantry and cupboards - discarding any old or expired items
  • Clean cabinet doors and hardware
  • Remove items from cabinets and drawers, dust and wipe once empty
  • Take stock of cabinet contents - move any infrequently used items into storage to decrease clutter!
  • Degrease backsplash
  • Wash dish rags - dispose of any old sponges or brushes

Dining Room:

  • If you have a collection of special items in a cabinet, remove all items, dust or clean if needed
  • Dust cabinet
  • Vacuum or spot clean chair cushions (a portable carpet cleaner is perfect for this!)

Bathrooms:

  • Discard any expired or empty personal care items
  • Properly dispose of any expired medication - never throw medication in the garbage! Pharmacies will often dispose of prescription and over the counter medications properly if you bring them in. You can conduct a quick google search of pharmacies in your area to find one that provides this service.
  • Declutter and clean vanity
  • Clean all mirrors
  • Clean tub and shower
  • Clean showerhead
  • Replace shower curtain liner
  • Scrub tile grout
  • Clean hardware

Laundry Room:

  • Clean washing machine - For those of you with a front loading washing machine, head over to the @gocleanco Instagram account for a full tutorial on how to properly clean it. Fair warning: you will not be able to unsee what you watch and might put cleaning your washing machine at the very top of your Spring cleaning list!
  • Clean dryer vent
  • Clean lint trap
  • Organize laundry supplies, disposing of any empty containers

Bedrooms:

  • Organize closets and dressers, putting any unneeded Winter items into storage for next year
  • Donate any unwanted clothing items
  • Wash all bedding
  • Rotate mattress
  • Dust and clean all furniture

Living Room:

  • Wash slipcovers if possible
  • Wash blankets and pillows
  • Dust electronics
  • Sanitize remote controls
  • Dust and clean all decor

Now we understand that some aspects of the cleaning process are a little more daunting than others, for help with your window cleaning, we recommend Enjoy the View Window (www.enjoytheview.ca) cleaning here in Hamilton and Aberdeen Carpet cleaning (www.aberdeencarpetcleaning.ca) for carpet and furniture upholstery cleaning!

BONUS TIP: Don’t feel like you have to tackle this whole list in one weekend – break up the list into manageable groups and before you know it your house will be squeaky clean and ready for a new season!

Heading

What’s a Rich Text element?

The rich text element allows you to create and format headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, images, and video all in one place instead of having to add and format them individually. Just double-click and easily create content.

Static and dynamic content editing

A rich text element can be used with static or dynamic content. For static content, just drop it into any page and begin editing. For dynamic content, add a rich text field to any collection and then connect a rich text element to that field in the settings panel. Voila!

How to customize formatting for each rich text

Headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, figures, images, and figure captions can all be styled after a class is added to the rich text element using the "When inside of" nested selector system.
